As I was cleaning this month, I found a trivet (really I knew where it was) that was given to my by my dear mother-in-law that she received for a wedding gift:
Apology
Although you'll find
our house a mess,
Come in, sit down, converse.
It doesn't always look
like this -
Some days it's even worse.
This month I took the advice of Mary Poppins and found that "element of fun."
About a month ago, while in the bath, my dear daughter decided to spray the bathroom door with a bath toy. After all was said and done the result was a broken light fixture and about half an inch of water on the floor. (Now hold that thought.) Since I am a short woman, wiping down the walls was a chore unto its self. I climbed on the tub, the toilet, the step ladder and was still short. I accomplished the initial wiping and felt that I didn't get all the soap off the walls. Then the AH-HA moment hit! So what would happen if I used the shower to clean the walls? Go ahead and laugh but I am sure Mary Poppins would approve. Now the bathroom had about a half an inch of water but the walls were sparkling clean and the floor was clean as well! It took about 3 hrs to clean the entire bathroom but I had fun and that's all that matters right? And surprisingly I have kept it clean every week since!
Now one thing that I wasn't able to complete was finding someone to tile the bathroom and that job is now being passed to the landlord. After making about 12 calls to various carpet and tile stores, I have come up empty handed! I had 3 that recommended someone else, 4 that said they deal with outdoor tiles, 4 that have never returned my call and 1 I wouldn't recommend to anyone! The individual at this particular company told me 'We only tile the interior of the home.' The bathroom is still part of the interior of the home right? Did I miss a memo or something?
Bathroom: Clean the window.Bathroom: Fix medicine cabinet.- Bathroom: Buy new toilet seat.
- Bathroom: Get quotes on tiles for bathroom. (Attempted but not achieved.)
Bathroom: Wipe down walls.Bathroom: Do a thorough dusting.Bathroom: Buy new shower curtain liner and ringsBathroom: Rehang towel rack(Accidentally broke while cleaning the bathroom.)
Now although I had 'fun' cleaning the bathroom, the kitchen was not so fun but since it didn't involve any organizing, I was able to complete it in one day as well. The organizing part will come soon, just not this month.
Kitchen: Wash the curtains.Kitchen: Wash the screens and windows.Kitchen: Wipe down the walls.Kitchen: Do a thorough dusting.Kitchen: Clean all appliances.(Revised)Make a list for landlord of things that need to be repaired.
So I am proud to announce I completed my October Mission of the Month and display this banner!
My September Mission was scheduled to be completed this weekend.
- Buy a closet rod.
- Hang lights and clock. (Requires husband's assistance!)
Find pictures, print pictures (printed most of them), and hang pictures on wall for the Family Photo Wall. (I was waiting on family members to send pictures but have discovered that sometimes you just have to do things yourself and have resorted to my photo archives. Not all are current and I don't have pictures of everyone (or at least ones I want to use) I can have them printed and hung this weekend!- Buy and paint plywood for the game closet doors. (Doors need a little more work -- guess this will have to be pushed one more month.)
So for now I have posted 'Mission Not Yet Accomplished.' But it will be. I promise.
